Deserts are dry, barren landscapes that receive very little rainfall, typically less than 10 inches per year. They can be hot, like the Sahara Desert, or cold, like the Antarctic Desert. Despite their harsh conditions, deserts are home to a variety of plants and animals that have adapted to survive with limited water and extreme temperatures.
The soil in deserts is often sandy or rocky, making it difficult for many plants to grow. However, some species, such as cacti and succulents, have developed special features to store water. Deserts also experience temperature fluctuations, with hot days and cool nights, creating a unique environment for life.
