cutaneous leishmaniasis
Cutaneous leishmaniasis is a skin infection caused by the Leishmania parasite, which is transmitted through the bite of infected sandflies. This condition leads to the development of sores or ulcers on the skin, often appearing weeks to months after the bite. The lesions can be painful and may leave scars once healed.
The disease is most commonly found in tropical and subtropical regions, affecting areas in South America, Africa, and Asia. While cutaneous leishmaniasis is not usually life-threatening, it can cause significant discomfort and may require medical treatment to manage symptoms and prevent complications.
