continental collision
Continental collision occurs when two tectonic plates, both composed of continental crust, push against each other. This process typically happens at convergent plate boundaries, where the plates collide and neither is subducted due to their similar densities. As a result, the crust is forced upward, leading to the formation of mountain ranges.
An example of continental collision is the ongoing interaction between the Indian Plate and the Eurasian Plate, which has created the Himalayas. This geological activity can also result in earthquakes and other geological phenomena, as the immense pressure builds up along fault lines.
