bush turkey
The bush turkey, also known as the Australian brush turkey, is a large bird native to the forests of eastern Australia. It is easily recognized by its dark plumage, bright red head, and long tail. Bush turkeys are ground-dwelling birds that prefer to forage for food, primarily eating fruits, seeds, and insects.
These birds are known for their unique nesting behavior. The female builds a large mound of leaves and soil, where she lays her eggs. The heat generated by the decomposing material incubates the eggs, allowing the chicks to hatch without the need for parental care.
