Wild Turkey
The Wild Turkey is a large bird native to North America, known for its distinctive fan-shaped tail and iridescent feathers. It typically inhabits forests, grasslands, and wetlands, where it forages for seeds, nuts, and insects. Wild turkeys are social animals, often seen in flocks, especially during the non-breeding season.
These birds are notable for their strong flying abilities, despite their size, and can fly short distances at speeds up to 55 miles per hour. The Meleagris gallopavo is the scientific name for the wild turkey, and it plays a significant role in the ecosystem as both a seed disperser and prey for various predators.
