Australian Brush Turkey
The Australian Brush Turkey (Talegalla cucculata) is a large bird native to the rainforests of eastern Australia. It is known for its distinctive black plumage, bright red head, and yellow wattle. These birds are part of the family Megapodiidae, which are known for their unique nesting habits, where they build large mounds of decomposing vegetation to incubate their eggs.
Brush Turkeys are ground-dwelling birds that primarily feed on fruits, seeds, and insects. They play an important role in their ecosystem by helping to disperse seeds. Their presence is often associated with the lush habitats of the Great Dividing Range and other forested areas in Queensland and New South Wales.
