avian beak and feather disease
Avian beak and feather disease (ABFD) is a viral infection that affects birds, particularly those in the Psittacidae family, such as parrots. The disease is caused by the beak and feather disease virus (BFDV), which leads to symptoms like feather loss, abnormal feather growth, and beak deformities. Infected birds may also experience a weakened immune system, making them more susceptible to other infections.
ABFD is primarily spread through direct contact with infected birds or contaminated environments. There is no known cure for the disease, and management focuses on supportive care and preventing the spread to healthy birds. Vaccination is not currently available, so early detection and isolation of affected birds are crucial.
