Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease
Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease (PBFD) is a viral infection that primarily affects parrots and other psittacine birds. It is caused by the Psittacine Beak and Feather Disease Virus (PBFDV), which leads to feather loss, beak deformities, and immune system suppression. The disease can be transmitted through direct contact, contaminated surfaces, or shared food and water.
Symptoms of PBFD can vary, but common signs include abnormal feather growth, loss of feathers, and changes in beak structure. There is no cure for PBFD, and affected birds often require supportive care. Prevention includes good hygiene practices and avoiding contact with infected birds.
