anti-skid brakes
Anti-skid brakes, also known as anti-lock braking systems (ABS), are safety features in vehicles designed to prevent wheel lock-up during hard braking. When a driver applies the brakes suddenly, ABS automatically modulates brake pressure to maintain traction, allowing the driver to steer while braking. This helps reduce the risk of skidding and improves vehicle control.
The system uses sensors to monitor wheel speed and detects when a wheel is about to lock. If it does, the ABS rapidly applies and releases the brake pressure, mimicking a pumping action. This technology enhances safety, especially on slippery surfaces like wet roads or ice.
