addition and subtraction
Addition is a basic mathematical operation that combines two or more numbers to find their total. For example, if you have 3 apples and you get 2 more apples, you can add them together to find that you now have 5 apples. The symbol for addition is “+”.
Subtraction, on the other hand, is the process of taking one number away from another. If you start with 5 apples and give away 2 apples, you can subtract to find out how many you have left. In this case, 5 - 2 equals 3 apples. The symbol for subtraction is “−”.
