Zonules
Zonules, also known as the zonules of Zinn, are tiny fibers that connect the ciliary body of the eye to the lens. They play a crucial role in holding the lens in place and allowing it to change shape for focusing on objects at different distances. This process is essential for clear vision.
These fibers are part of the eye's accommodation system, which helps adjust focus. When the ciliary muscles contract, the zonules relax, allowing the lens to become thicker for near vision. Conversely, when the ciliary muscles relax, the zonules become taut, flattening the lens for distance vision.
