ZAPU
The Zimbabwe African People's Union, commonly known as ZAPU, is a political party in Zimbabwe that was founded in 1961. It emerged as a response to the need for African representation and rights during the colonial period. ZAPU aimed to fight against British colonial rule and later against the white-minority government in Rhodesia.
ZAPU was led by Joshua Nkomo, a prominent nationalist leader. The party played a significant role in the liberation struggle, advocating for social justice and equality. After Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980, ZAPU became part of the political landscape, although it later faced challenges and split into different factions.
