Joshua Nkomo
Joshua Nkomo was a prominent Zimbabwean nationalist leader and a key figure in the country's struggle for independence from British colonial rule. Born on June 7, 1917, in what was then Southern Rhodesia, he became the leader of the Zimbabwe African People's Union (ZAPU) and played a significant role in advocating for the rights of black Zimbabweans.
Nkomo was known for his commitment to social justice and equality. After Zimbabwe gained independence in 1980, he served as the country's Vice President under Robert Mugabe. Despite his contributions, Nkomo faced political challenges and tensions with other leaders, particularly those from the Zimbabwe African National Union (ZANU).
