Wood Duck
The Wood Duck is a colorful waterfowl native to North America. Known for its striking plumage, the male has iridescent green and purple feathers, while the female is more subdued with a grayish-brown appearance. These ducks prefer wooded swamps, marshes, and ponds, often nesting in tree cavities.
Wood Ducks are unique in their ability to perch on branches, thanks to their strong claws. They primarily feed on seeds, fruits, and insects, making them omnivorous. Their population has rebounded due to conservation efforts and the installation of nest boxes, which help provide safe nesting sites in their habitats.
