Women’s Protection Units
Women’s Protection Units (YPJ) are military formations primarily composed of women, established in Kurdistan to combat ISIS and promote gender equality. These units emerged in response to the specific threats faced by women in conflict zones, including violence and oppression.
The YPJ not only engage in combat but also serve as symbols of empowerment for women in the region. They aim to challenge traditional gender roles and advocate for women's rights, contributing to broader social change within their communities.
