Wisconsin History
Wisconsin's history began with Native American tribes, such as the Ojibwe and Menominee, who inhabited the region for thousands of years. European exploration started in the 17th century, with French explorers like Jacques Marquette and Louis Jolliet mapping the area. The state became part of the United States in 1783 and was officially admitted as the 30th state in 1848.
During the 19th century, Wisconsin experienced significant growth due to the lumber and agriculture industries. The discovery of lead in the southwestern part of the state attracted many settlers. Today, Wisconsin is known for its rich cultural heritage, including cheese-making and brewing.
