William Stukeley
William Stukeley (1687-1765) was an English antiquarian and physician known for his studies of ancient monuments and prehistoric sites in Britain. He is best remembered for his work on Stonehenge and Avebury, where he conducted detailed surveys and published findings that contributed to the understanding of these ancient structures.
Stukeley was also a prominent figure in the early development of archaeology. His writings, including "Stonehenge: A Temple Restor'd to the British Druids," helped popularize the idea that these sites were linked to ancient Druid practices. His contributions laid the groundwork for future archaeological research in the UK.
