William Miller was an American Baptist preacher born on February 15, 1782, in Pittsfield, Massachusetts. He is best known for his role in the {Millerite movement}, which emerged in the early 19th century. Miller believed that the Second Coming of {Jesus Christ} would occur in 1844, based on his interpretation of biblical prophecies, particularly from the book of {Daniel}.
Miller's predictions gained a significant following, leading to widespread anticipation and excitement. However, when the expected event did not occur, it resulted in what is known as the {Great Disappointment}. Despite this setback, Miller's teachings influenced the formation of several religious groups, including the {Seventh-day Adventist Church}.
