William McCarty
William McCarty, commonly known as Billy the Kid, was an infamous American outlaw and gunfighter in the late 19th century. Born in 1859 in New York City, he became a prominent figure in the American Old West during the Lincoln County War in New Mexico. McCarty was known for his youthful appearance and quick draw, which contributed to his legendary status.
Throughout his short life, McCarty was involved in numerous gunfights and was reputed to have killed eight men. He was captured multiple times but managed to escape, further enhancing his reputation. He was ultimately shot and killed by Sheriff Pat Garrett in 1881 at the age of 21.
