William Byrd I
William Byrd I was an English planter and politician who played a significant role in the early history of the Virginia Colony. Born in 1674, he became a prominent landowner and established the Westover Plantation along the James River. Byrd was known for his contributions to the development of the colony's economy and infrastructure.
In addition to his work as a planter, Byrd served in the Virginia House of Burgesses and was involved in various public affairs. He was also a member of the Council of Virginia, helping to shape the governance of the colony during its formative years.
