White Ship disaster
The White Ship disaster occurred on November 25, 1120, when the ship, known as the White Ship, sank in the English Channel. It was carrying many important figures, including the heir to the English throne, William Adelin, the son of King Henry I of England. The ship capsized after hitting a rock, leading to the drowning of most passengers.
The tragedy had significant political consequences, as William Adelin's death left the English throne without a clear heir. This event contributed to a succession crisis in England, ultimately leading to a period of civil war known as the Anarchy, which lasted for several decades.
