White Ship
The White Ship was a medieval vessel that sank in 1120 off the coast of Normandy, France. It was carrying a group of nobles, including the heir to the English throne, William Adelin, the son of King Henry I. The ship struck a rock and capsized, leading to the drowning of most passengers.
The disaster had significant political consequences, as William Adelin's death left the English throne without a clear heir. This event contributed to a succession crisis in England, ultimately leading to a period of civil war known as the Anarchy, which lasted for several years.
