Western Sahara is a disputed territory located in North Africa, bordered by Morocco to the north, Algeria to the northeast, and Mauritania to the east and south. It has a coastline along the Atlantic Ocean. The region is primarily desert and has a sparse population, mainly consisting of the Sahrawi people.
The status of Western Sahara remains unresolved since the withdrawal of Spain in 1975. The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR), proclaimed by the Polisario Front, seeks independence, while Morocco claims the territory as part of its sovereign land. The ongoing conflict has led to a protracted political stalemate.
