Western snowy plover
The Western snowy plover is a small shorebird found along the Pacific coast of North America. It typically measures about 6 to 7 inches in length and has a sandy-colored plumage that helps it blend into its beach habitat. This bird is known for its distinctive black markings on the head and a short, stubby bill.
These plovers primarily feed on small invertebrates, such as insects and crustaceans, found in the sand. They nest on open beaches, laying eggs directly in the sand, which makes them vulnerable to predators and human activities. Conservation efforts are in place to protect their habitats and ensure their survival.
