West Yorkshire Regiment
The West Yorkshire Regiment was a line infantry regiment of the British Army, formed in 1881. It was created through the amalgamation of several local units, including the Yorkshire Regiment and the West Riding Regiment. The regiment served in various conflicts, including both World Wars, and was known for its distinctive cap badge featuring a white rose, symbolizing its Yorkshire heritage.
In 1968, the West Yorkshire Regiment was merged into the Prince of Wales's Own Regiment of Yorkshire, marking the end of its independent existence. The regiment's history is celebrated through various memorials and museums, preserving its legacy in the region.
