West African History
West African history is rich and diverse, marked by the rise and fall of powerful empires such as the Ghana Empire, Mali Empire, and Songhai Empire. These empires thrived from the 8th to the 16th centuries, primarily due to trade in gold, salt, and other goods across the Sahara Desert. They also fostered advancements in culture, education, and religion, particularly the spread of Islam.
The region has a complex history of colonization, with European powers like France and Britain establishing control in the 19th century. This led to significant social, economic, and political changes. Today, West Africa is known for its vibrant cultures, languages, and ongoing efforts toward development and unity.
