Weedy Seadragon
The Weedy Seadragon is a marine fish native to the coastal waters of southern Australia. It is closely related to the seahorse and is known for its unique appearance, featuring long, leaf-like appendages that provide excellent camouflage among seaweed and kelp. These adaptations help it evade predators in its natural habitat.
Weedy Seadragons can grow up to 18 inches long and are typically orange or yellow with greenish or brown markings. They primarily feed on small crustaceans and plankton. Unlike many fish, the male Weedy Seadragon carries the eggs on his tail until they hatch, showcasing a fascinating reproductive behavior.
