Water Vole
The Water Vole is a small, semi-aquatic rodent found in wetlands, rivers, and ponds across Europe and parts of Asia. It has a stocky body, short legs, and a distinctive blunt snout. Water voles are excellent swimmers and often create burrows along riverbanks, where they live and raise their young.
These animals primarily feed on a diet of aquatic plants, grasses, and sedges. Water voles play a crucial role in their ecosystem by helping to maintain healthy waterways and providing food for predators like otters and herons. Unfortunately, their populations have declined due to habitat loss and predation by invasive species.
