Field Vole
The Field Vole is a small rodent found primarily in grasslands and fields across Europe and parts of Asia. It has a compact body, short legs, and a short tail, typically measuring about 8 to 10 centimeters in length. Its fur is usually brown or gray, providing camouflage in its natural habitat. Field voles are herbivorous, feeding mainly on grasses, seeds, and roots.
These voles are known for their high reproductive rate, with females capable of producing several litters each year. They play a crucial role in the ecosystem by serving as prey for various predators, including birds of prey and small mammals like the Barn Owl. Their populations can fluctuate significantly, influenced by environmental conditions and predation.
