European Water Rat
The European Water Rat, also known as the nutria or coypu, is a large semi-aquatic rodent native to South America but has established populations in Europe and other regions. It typically weighs between 5 to 10 kilograms and has a long, cylindrical body with webbed feet, making it an excellent swimmer. Its fur is dense and waterproof, allowing it to thrive in wetland habitats.
These rodents primarily feed on aquatic plants, roots, and grasses, contributing to the ecosystem by helping to control vegetation. However, they can also cause damage to crops and riverbanks, leading to conflicts with farmers and conservationists.
