Waldeyer's ring
Waldeyer's ring is a collection of lymphoid tissues located in the throat area, forming a protective barrier against infections. It consists of several key components, including the palatine tonsils, pharyngeal tonsil (also known as adenoid), and lingual tonsils. These tissues work together to trap pathogens and initiate immune responses.
This ring of lymphoid tissue plays a crucial role in the body's immune system, particularly during childhood when the risk of infections is higher. By producing antibodies and activating immune cells, Waldeyer's ring helps defend the body against bacteria and viruses that enter through the mouth and nose.
