Adenoids are small masses of lymphatic tissue located at the back of the nasal cavity, above the roof of the mouth. They play a role in the immune system by helping to trap and fight infections, especially in young children. However, they can become enlarged due to frequent infections, leading to breathing difficulties, snoring, or ear problems.
When adenoids are enlarged, they may obstruct airflow through the nasal passages, causing issues like sleep apnea or chronic nasal congestion. In some cases, doctors may recommend removal of the adenoids, a procedure known as adenoidectomy, to alleviate these problems and improve overall health.
