Virginia Court of Appeals
The Virginia Court of Appeals is the intermediate appellate court in the state of Virginia. Established in 1985, it reviews decisions made by lower courts, including circuit courts and certain administrative agencies. The court primarily handles civil and criminal appeals, ensuring that legal procedures and laws are correctly applied.
Composed of eleven judges, the Virginia Court of Appeals hears cases in panels of three. Its decisions can be appealed to the Supreme Court of Virginia, but only in specific circumstances. The court plays a crucial role in maintaining the rule of law and providing a check on lower court rulings.
