The vicuña is a wild South American camelid, closely related to the llama and alpaca. It is native to the high Andes mountains, primarily found in countries like Peru, Bolivia, and Chile. Vicuñas are known for their slender bodies, long necks, and soft, fine wool, which is highly valued.
Vicuñas live in herds and are adapted to harsh, high-altitude environments. They graze on grasses and other vegetation, and unlike domesticated camelids, they cannot be farmed. Instead, their wool is collected through a process called shearing, which is done every two to three years to protect the animals.
