Vestibulospinal Tract
The Vestibulospinal Tract is a neural pathway that originates in the vestibular nuclei of the brainstem. It plays a crucial role in maintaining balance and posture by transmitting signals from the inner ear's vestibular system to the spinal cord. This tract helps coordinate head and body movements in response to changes in balance.
There are two main components of the vestibulospinal tract: the lateral vestibulospinal tract and the medial vestibulospinal tract. The lateral tract primarily facilitates extensor muscle activity, promoting upright posture, while the medial tract assists in head and neck movements. Together, they ensure stability during movement and help prevent falls.
