Corticospinal Tract
The corticospinal tract is a major neural pathway that connects the brain to the spinal cord. It plays a crucial role in controlling voluntary movements, particularly those of the limbs and trunk. This tract originates in the motor cortex of the brain and descends through the brainstem and spinal cord, where it synapses with motor neurons.
The corticospinal tract is divided into two main parts: the lateral corticospinal tract and the anterior corticospinal tract. The lateral tract primarily controls fine motor skills, while the anterior tract is involved in gross motor movements. Damage to this tract can lead to motor deficits and coordination issues.
