Vernicia fordii
Vernicia fordii, commonly known as the tung tree, is a deciduous tree native to China and Taiwan. It typically grows to a height of 10 to 20 meters and features large, heart-shaped leaves. The tree produces small, white flowers that bloom in clusters, followed by round, green fruit that contains seeds.
The seeds of the tung tree are rich in oil, known as tung oil, which is used in various applications, including wood finishing and as a drying agent in paints. Additionally, the tree is valued for its ability to thrive in poor soil conditions, making it a popular choice for reforestation efforts.
