Van catfish
The Van catfish, also known as Van fish or Van Kedi Balığı, is a unique species native to the Lake Van region in eastern Turkey. This freshwater fish is known for its distinctive appearance, featuring a white body and a large, flat head. It can grow quite large, reaching lengths of up to 1.5 meters (5 feet) and weighing over 40 kilograms (88 pounds).
Van catfish are primarily carnivorous, feeding on smaller fish and aquatic organisms. They are well-adapted to the cold waters of Lake Van, which is one of the largest soda lakes in the world. Due to their unique habitat and characteristics, they are an important part of the local ecosystem and culture.
