Valle de los Caídos
The Valle de los Caídos is a monumental site located near San Lorenzo de El Escorial in Spain. It was constructed between 1940 and 1959 under the regime of Francisco Franco to honor those who died during the Spanish Civil War. The site features a large basilica and a towering cross, making it a significant landmark.
The basilica is carved into the rock of the Cruz del Valle mountain and is one of the largest in the world. The site also serves as a burial place for thousands of combatants from both sides of the civil war, reflecting the complex history of the conflict.
