Uterine Leiomyomata
Uterine leiomyomata, commonly known as uterine fibroids, are noncancerous tumors that develop in the muscular wall of the uterus. They are made up of smooth muscle and fibrous tissue and can vary in size, number, and location. Many women experience no symptoms, but some may have heavy menstrual bleeding, pelvic pain, or pressure symptoms.
These growths are most common during a woman's reproductive years and can affect fertility and pregnancy. The exact cause of uterine leiomyomata is not fully understood, but factors such as hormones and genetics may play a role in their development.
