Uruguayan War of Independence
The Uruguayan War of Independence (1811-1828) was a conflict in which the region of Uruguay sought to gain independence from Spanish colonial rule. The war began with the initial uprising led by José Artigas, who became a key figure in the struggle for autonomy. The conflict involved various factions, including local patriots and royalists, as well as foreign powers like Portugal and Argentina.
The war concluded with the establishment of the Cisplatine Province in 1821, which was later annexed by Brazil. However, the desire for true independence persisted, leading to further conflicts until Uruguay finally achieved sovereignty in 1828, marking the end of the struggle for independence.
