Urartian language
The Urartian language is an ancient language that was spoken in the region of Urartu, which is located in modern-day eastern Turkey, Armenia, and northwestern Iran. It is primarily known from inscriptions and texts found on monuments, pottery, and seals. The language is part of the Hurro-Urartian family, which is distinct from the Indo-European languages.
Urartian was used mainly during the 9th to 6th centuries BCE, during the height of the Urartian Kingdom. The script used for writing Urartian is a variant of the cuneiform script, adapted to fit the phonetic needs of the language. Although it is not widely understood today, it provides valuable insights into the culture and history of the Urartians.
