United Socialist Party of Venezuela
The United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV) is a political party in Venezuela, founded in 2007. It emerged from the merger of several leftist parties and is closely associated with the policies of Hugo Chávez, the country's former president. The PSUV promotes socialist principles and aims to establish a socialist state in Venezuela.
The party has been the ruling party since Chávez's presidency and continues to hold significant power under Nicolás Maduro, his successor. The PSUV advocates for social programs, nationalization of industries, and wealth redistribution, often facing criticism for its handling of the economy and political dissent.
