Understanding by Design
Understanding by Design (UbD) is an educational framework developed by Grant Wiggins and Jay McTighe that focuses on designing curriculum and assessments with the end goals in mind. It emphasizes the importance of identifying desired learning outcomes before planning instructional activities, ensuring that teaching is aligned with specific objectives.
The UbD model consists of three stages: identifying desired results, determining acceptable evidence of learning, and planning learning experiences and instruction. This backward design approach helps educators create more effective lessons that foster deeper understanding and retention of knowledge among students, ultimately enhancing their learning experience.
