Ukrainian Insurgent Army
The Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA) was a nationalist military organization formed during World War II. It aimed to establish an independent Ukrainian state and fought against both Nazi Germany and the Soviet Union. The UPA was primarily active in western Ukraine and was associated with the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN).
The UPA engaged in guerrilla warfare and sought to mobilize the Ukrainian population for its cause. Its activities included armed resistance and efforts to gain support from local communities. The group is a controversial part of Ukrainian history, with differing views on its legacy and actions during the war.
