Ukrainian Nationalism
Ukrainian nationalism is a political and cultural movement that seeks to promote the identity, culture, and interests of the Ukrainian people. It emerged in the 19th century as a response to foreign domination, particularly from the Russian Empire and Austro-Hungarian Empire. Nationalists advocate for the preservation of the Ukrainian language, traditions, and history, emphasizing the importance of national sovereignty.
The movement gained momentum during the 20th century, especially during events like the Ukrainian War of Independence and the Holodomor, a devastating famine. Today, Ukrainian nationalism plays a significant role in the country's politics, particularly in the context of ongoing conflicts with Russia and efforts to strengthen Ukraine's independence and territorial integrity.
