USS Young (DE-1)
The USS Young (DE-1) was a destroyer escort ship of the United States Navy, commissioned during World War II. Launched on 24 March 1943, it was named in honor of Lieutenant John Young, who was killed in action during World War I. The ship was designed to provide anti-submarine warfare support and escort duties for larger vessels.
Throughout its service, the USS Young participated in various operations in the Atlantic and Pacific theaters. After the war, the ship was decommissioned in 1946 and later sold for scrap in 1972. The vessel played a crucial role in enhancing naval capabilities during its operational years.
