USS Smith (DD-2) History
The USS Smith (DD-2) was a destroyer in the United States Navy, launched on December 31, 1901. It was named after Captain William Smith, a notable naval officer. The ship was part of the first group of destroyers built for the Navy and served primarily in the early 20th century, participating in various training exercises and fleet maneuvers.
Commissioned in 1903, the USS Smith operated along the Atlantic coast and in the Caribbean. It played a role in the Great White Fleet exercises and was involved in World War I operations. The ship was decommissioned in 1919 and sold for scrap in 1934.
