Užgavėnės
Užgavėnės is a traditional Lithuanian festival celebrated before the start of Lent. It usually takes place in February or early March and marks the end of winter and the beginning of spring. The festival is characterized by vibrant costumes, masks, and lively parades, where people often dress as various characters, including devils and bears.
During Užgavėnės, people enjoy rich foods, particularly pancakes and doughnuts, symbolizing abundance. The festivities include games, music, and dancing, creating a joyful atmosphere. A key highlight is the burning of a straw effigy called Morė, representing winter, to welcome the arrival of spring.
