Tympanoplasty
Tympanoplasty is a surgical procedure aimed at repairing a perforated eardrum or reconstructing the middle ear structures. This surgery is often performed to improve hearing and prevent recurrent ear infections. It involves using grafts, which can be taken from the patient's own tissue or synthetic materials, to close the hole in the eardrum.
The procedure is typically done under general anesthesia and can take a few hours. Recovery may involve some discomfort and a temporary decrease in hearing, but most patients experience significant improvement in their hearing and overall ear health after the surgery.
